We are first and foremost teaching directors.  We love theatre and performers.  It is our goal to transfer a lifelong love of theatre to our students along with the skills they'll need to be successful.  We direct the way we would want to be directed.  Our company has always been a performers first company.  This results in happy performers; and happy performers have fun, work hard, and deliver great shows.
Here is one of our past youth theatre projects, some  fun kid pics, and Marvelous Matriculation Musical Spring 2006.

Marvelous Matriculation Musical

Show Description

This is a wonderfully entertaining musical about the last day of school when a medicine show comes to town bringing old loves and new and changes the lives of the people who live there.  This musical is set in the late 1890s.  It is filled with fun songs from the period.  This delightful musical premièred to sell-out audiences April 2006 and will be reprised with a new cast in Austin.

Some past show pictures of this musical are here.

Rehearsal Groups

The performers in all rehearsal groups listed below will dance together, act, and they will sing.

Please don't sign a child up for both the early AND late rehearsal group.

Only one "school child: costume will be needed for the performers in the Early and Late rehearsals.

The Vaudeville Group will do more singing, dancing.  (The Vaudeville Group is available alone or in combination with the Late Rehearsal Group.)  The performers in the Vaudeville Group will need more than one costume dependent on which dance numbers they are performing.

There are only four roles that aren't played by youth.  Of these there is a possibility that two of the adult roles (one male and one female roll) could be played by very talented older teens.  This will be determined on Sept. 7th.

Expectations
Please read these guidelines.

(ARCHIVE info)

Orientation Day:  September 7, 2006

All Performers:  Noon - 3 p.m. for a workshop.  In this workshop we will get to know the performers strengths, and all the performers from all the classes will get to meet each other.  It is fun and stress free.  You do not have to prepare anything for the workshop.  Just come dressed to roll on the floor and have fun.

In the show each child will have their moment to shine, in addition to group skits, scenes, songs, and dances.

Only if a performer is interested in a solo singing part or one of the adult roles do they need a have a prepared a 1-minute song.  A CD player will be available for use if desired.

One parent per family must attend Orientation Day from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Bring your calendar!  Any and all conflicts must be noted at this time.  (Parents are welcome to stay from Noon to 3:00 if they wish.)

Visitation

All parents are welcome to stay for all rehearsals as long as they are quiet and not distracting.  Note:  One of the benefits to rehearsing at a recreation center with a playground is that there is plenty to keep siblings busy.

Clothing for Rehearsals

Comfortable, stretchy clothing appropriate to rolling on the floor and stretching.  Barefoot or wearing ballet or non-marking shoes.

Water

Performers must have a water bottle with their name on it at every rehearsal and performance.

Absences

While being at all rehearsals and performances is mandatory, we know illness and emergencies happen.  We expect that if your child is sick that you keep them home.  Children must be fever, diarrhea, and vomiting free for 24 hours before coming to a rehearsal.  Directors will consider each case individually to determine if missed rehearsal will keep a child from performing his role.  Directors must be informed at orientation if there are any rehearsal or performance conflicts.

Costumes for the Show

Performers rehearsing during the Early or Late rehearsal period will need only one "school-child costume."  See this page for ideas: http://easytheatre.com/1890s/costumes.html.  If other costumes are needed for the school kids, they will be provided.

Those performers in the Vaudeville will need costumes dependent on the dance numbers in which they are participating.  Example or other costumes might include:  Can Can dress, bustle dress, boys formal outfit, etc.

Feet:  Barefoot, ballet slippers, period shoes or boots.  No tennis shoes, no flip-flops, no sandals, swim shoes, etc.

PARENT Responsibilities

Attend orientation on September 7, 2006.  (See above.)

Work one performance as a chaperone, usher, or in ticket and refreshment sales, which would necessitate attending one dress rehearsal to learn what needs to be done for the performers.  There are a minimum of five parents per night needed times six performances equals thirty parents at least.  We understand that this could be difficult for some parents, so in lieu of helping one could pay a $25 fee, and we'll arrange for someone else to take your place.

Have their child's costumes ready by January 11, 2007.  The parent (not the performer) is responsible for seeing that their child has their complete costume for this date and all dates after this.  Make sure the costume is hung neatly after rehearsals and performances.

A parent (or a previously designated person) must come into the building and pick up their child at the end of rehearsals and performances unless the child drove themselves to rehearsal.

Talk about the show to everyone they know.  Yep were serious.  This is a performance, and it is very important for the performer to have good audiences for all their shows.  When we played the Marvelous Matriculation Musical in Bastrop we had great audiences.  This was in part because some people saw it and came back and brought friends.  But the opening audiences were a direct result of parents talking about the show to everyone they knew and putting up posters where ever they went.

Tickets

Performers may pre-purchase tickets for $5 each for friends and family prior to January 12, 2007.

January Performance?

Yes.  There are four reasons that the performances are in January instead of at the end of the Fall semesters.
1.  It will allow more people to participate without conflicts!
2.   Almost all performance classes hold their end of semester performances in December.  This means that there are an incredible number of conflicts that happen if a performer is in more than one show.   By waiting until January we avoid those conflicts.
3.  It allows all our families to have a more relaxing holiday season.

Videos

A DVD of the show will be available for $20 plus tax and shipping and handling.  To make this possible, there can be no children under the age of 6 in the theater on the Saturday performances!  Everyone is welcome to attend the Friday performances if they are well behaved.  There is even an alternative performance for those children who just can't sit still or be quite, but who would like to see the show.  You may bring them to the Thursday, January 25th performance.
